Wey Overview

Wey is GWM’s premium sub-brand, sitting above Haval in positioning, alongside Ora and Tank as one of GWM’s five global model lines. It focuses on genuinely upmarket plug-in hybrid SUVs and MPVs, built to compete with brands like Denza and Toyota’s Alphard rather than mainstream family cars.

The range has grown quickly through 2025 and 2026. The Wey G9 (also called Gaoshan in China) is a seven-seat luxury MPV that’s already launched in Malaysia and gone on sale in the UAE, aimed squarely at the Toyota Alphard. GWM’s newer Global One S platform has since introduced the flagship V9X, a six-seat SUV with up to 470km of electric range, and the smaller five-seat V8X. In Europe, the Wey 05 plug-in hybrid SUV is already on sale in Germany, priced competitively against the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

Wey has been confirmed for Australia, launching there in 2026 as a three-model portfolio led by the G9, sold through GWM’s existing dealer network rather than as a standalone showroom brand. The UK is a different story: GWM has floated UK interest in Wey since at least early 2024, but as of today, no confirmed UK launch date, pricing or model line-up has been announced. Wey has not yet launched in the UK.
