Jaecoo is one of two sister brands, alongside Omoda, created by Chery Automobile specifically to sell cars outside China, and it’s had an unusually fast and successful start in Britain. The name blends the German word Jäger, meaning hunter, with the English word cool, reflecting the brand’s positioning around rugged, outdoors capable SUV design.

Jaecoo Overview
Jaecoo was established in April 2023, a subsidiary of Chery International, and like Omoda it is never sold within China itself, existing purely as an export marque. Chery, the parent company behind both brands, was founded in 1997 in Wuhu, in China’s Anhui province, and has been the country’s largest independent vehicle exporter every year since 2003.
Jaecoo arrived in the UK in early 2025 with a single model, the Jaecoo 7, and the reception was striking. Within its first year on sale it had racked up tens of thousands of UK registrations, at one point finishing as the country’s second best selling new car in a single month, behind only the Kia Sportage, a genuinely remarkable result for a brand nobody in Britain had heard of twelve months earlier. Some owners and reviewers have nicknamed it the Temu Range Rover for its boxy, upmarket looking design at a fraction of the price of an actual Range Rover.
Jaecoo positions itself specifically around an outdoor, adventure ready image, distinguishing it from the more urban, design led Omoda despite both brands sharing showrooms in many UK locations and much of their underlying engineering. Even the entry level Jaecoo 7 is offered with four wheel drive as an option, unusual at this price point, reinforcing that positioning.
Since that debut, Jaecoo has expanded quickly. The compact Jaecoo 5 and the fully electric Jaecoo E5 followed in late 2025, giving the brand a genuine spread across petrol, electric and plug in hybrid power in a relatively small SUV. In 2026, Jaecoo moved upmarket with the Jaecoo 8, a large seven seat flagship SUV with genuinely serious performance figures, positioning the brand as a credible alternative to established family SUVs from Skoda, Hyundai and Peugeot rather than just a budget option.
Every Jaecoo sold in the UK comes with a 7 year, 100,000 mile vehicle warranty, with hybrid and electric models getting a separate 8 year warranty on their high voltage battery, a policy that has stayed consistent as the range has grown. That consistency, along with pricing that has generally undercut established rivals by a considerable margin while offering more standard equipment, has been central to how quickly Jaecoo has built momentum in what’s already a genuinely crowded market for new Chinese brands in Britain.
Vehicles are built in China at Chery’s manufacturing facilities, using platforms shared with Chery’s other brands, including Omoda. As the wider Chery group continues to expand internationally, Jaecoo looks set to keep growing its UK lineup well beyond the four models covered here.
