Wey G9
The Wey G9, known in China as the Gaoshan, is a seven-seat luxury MPV built to challenge the Toyota Alphard head-on, a genuinely serious ambition given how dominant Toyota has been in this segment across Asia. It’s already gone on sale in Malaysia and the UAE, where it’s sold as the GWM Wey 80.
Power comes from GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, pairing a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 44.2kWh battery for a combined 436hp and all-wheel drive. Electric-only range runs to around 170km, with a combined range beyond 1,000km once the petrol engine is included. The cabin is built around genuine executive comfort rather than raw capacity, with captain’s chairs and a premium sound system among the standard equipment on offer.
In Malaysia, the Wey G9 is priced from RM269,800, around Β£45,900 converted, and recorded 800 bookings within its first week on sale. It has not launched in the UK, and no UK price or launch date has been announced.
