Zeekr

The company is headquartered in Ningbo, in China’s Zhejiang province, and its main factory there is a genuinely huge, highly automated facility capable of building over 300,000 cars a year. Zeekr was designed from day one to be a global brand rather than a China only one, and it even has a design and engineering base in Gothenburg, Sweden, led for a period by Peter Horbury, the former Volvo design chief who went on to run design across the whole Geely group. That European design input shows in how deliberately Zeekr’s cars have been aimed at markets like the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway, all places it already sells in.

Growth has been fast by any standard. Zeekr delivered its 100,000th car within 18 months of its first vehicle rolling off the line, and by 2025 annual production had reached over 570,000 vehicles. In February 2025, Zeekr became a holding company in its own right, taking on the Lynk and Co brand as a second marque alongside the original Zeekr badge, and the combined group now has global sales targets in the hundreds of thousands of units a year.

Zeekr has not yet launched in the United Kingdom, though that is expected to change, with the brand reportedly targeting a UK launch toward the end of 2026, and individual models like the 7X specifically pencilled in for UK arrival in 2027. In the meantime, Zeekr already sells several models directly in a handful of European countries including the Netherlands, and separately in markets like Australia, which gives a reasonably clear picture of what UK buyers can eventually expect, both in terms of specification and pricing.

The current Zeekr lineup is built entirely around premium electric and, more recently, plug in hybrid technology. The Zeekr 001 was the brand’s original model, a striking shooting brake style liftback that established Zeekr’s design language. The Zeekr X is a smaller, more affordable compact SUV aimed at urban buyers. The Zeekr 7X is a mid-size electric SUV pitched directly against the Tesla Model Y, and has quickly become one of the brand’s best selling models internationally. The Zeekr 009 is a large luxury MPV aimed at chauffeured and family use, with genuinely enormous interior space. At the very top of the range, the Zeekr 8X and the newer Zeekr 9X are both large, extremely powerful plug in hybrid SUVs, with the 9X in particular offering supercar rivalling acceleration alongside seating for up to six people, an unusual combination that has made it a genuine sensation in China, collecting 40,000 orders within its first hour on sale.
