Lepas is the newest brand from Chery International, arriving in the UK as the fourth marque under the Chery umbrella here, alongside Chery itself, Omoda and Jaecoo. The name is a blend of “leopard”, “leap” and “passion”, reflecting a design philosophy Chery calls Leopard Aesthetics, built around the speed and fluid movement of the animal, and every Lepas model, whether hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric, is styled with that same visual language.

Lepas Overview
The brand itself was established around 2025, conceived specifically as an export-focused marque rather than one sold in China, similar in spirit to how Chery built Omoda and Jaecoo before it. Chery has been explicit that the UK isn’t an afterthought here. Gary Lan, CEO of Lepas UK, has said the UK will play a “key role” in the brand’s global strategy, and pointed to British buyers being among the most discerning in the world as part of the reasoning for prioritising the market early.
Lepas in the UK
Lepas launched in the UK with the Lepas L8, a mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV that opened for pre-order in July 2026 with first deliveries from September, positioned as a genuine rival to the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan. It won’t be alone for long. The L6, a smaller SUV offered with both a Super Hybrid power train and a fully electric option, made its European debut at Milan Design Week and is expected in the UK before the end of 2026, while the L4, a smaller electric SUV shown at the Beijing Motor Show, is pencilled in for 2027. Chery has also confirmed L1, L2 and L3 models exist in the wider pipeline, an entry SUV, an electric hatchback, and a larger, more luxurious version of the L8 respectively, though none has a confirmed UK date yet.
Lepas Warranty
Every Lepas model sold in the UK so far comes with a 7 year, 100,000 mile vehicle warranty, an 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the high-voltage battery, and up to 7 years of RAC roadside assistance included as standard, matching the generous cover Chery’s other UK brands are already known for. There’s also a manufacturing story worth watching: Chery has reportedly been in early discussions with Nissan about building some of its cars on a spare production line in Sunderland, though nothing has been confirmed, and for now every Lepas sold here is built in China.
