Rising Auto Overview

Rising Auto has a genuinely tangled naming history even by Chinese car industry standards. It began life in 2021 as a spin-off from Roewe, initially just called “R”, then renamed Feifan in Chinese, before settling on the English name Rising Auto for international use, all while its cars continued to be badged simply “R” or “Feifan R” at home. It was created specifically to house SAIC’s more premium, technology-forward electric vehicles, separate from Roewe’s more mainstream range.

Rising Auto’s most important product was the R7, a coupe-styled electric SUV with genuinely high-end features for its era, including battery-swap capability, an optional Luminar LiDAR sensor, and a 43-inch triple-screen dashboard. A second model, the F7 executive sedan, followed in 2023.

In November 2024, SAIC officially folded Rising Auto back into Roewe, ending its run as an independent brand after roughly three years. Rising is now positioned as a premium electric product line within Roewe rather than a standalone marque, its cars are still sold and supported, but the brand no longer operates independently. Rising Auto never launched in the UK, and given its absorption into Roewe, is unlikely to appear as a separate brand in any future market.
