Mengshi 917
The Mengshi 917 is the brand’s debut model, a genuinely serious luxury electric off-roader that made its public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023 before going on sale that August. It’s built on Dongfeng’s new MORA platform, with rear-wheel steering including a “crab mode” for sideways manoeuvring, air suspension, and a full-terrain driving system, hardware that helped it win China’s Best Off-road Award later that year.
The pure electric version uses four independent motors for a combined 1,088 hp, enough for 0 to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds despite the 917’s considerable size and off-road hardware, drawing on a 140kWh CATL battery for around 314 miles of CLTC range. A range-extender EREV version is also offered, using three motors alongside a 1.5 litre petrol generator for a combined range stretching beyond 640 miles. Inside, three separate screens cover the driver’s instruments, driver touchscreen and front passenger, with optional Alcantara-trimmed seats.
The Mengshi 917 starts from 637,700 yuan in China, around Β£69,700 converted, rising to 739,000 yuan for the top trim. It has not launched in the UK, and remains a China-only model for now.
