Roewe RX5
The Roewe RX5 is one of the brand’s longest-running and best-known models, a compact SUV first launched in 2016 as a joint effort with Alibaba, styled as one of China’s earliest “internet cars” with deep smartphone-style connectivity built in from the start. It’s now into its third generation, launched in August 2025 on SAIC’s new “Mount Everest” architecture, offered in petrol and plug-in hybrid eRX5 forms.
The petrol version spans six variants, while the plug-in hybrid eRX5 pairs a turbocharged engine with an electric motor for genuinely strong performance alongside reduced running costs. Standard equipment includes SAIC’s Zebra Intelligent VENUS infotainment system, and Roewe backs the range with what it calls three lifetime benefits: free basic data, free maintenance, and a lifetime original-factory warranty for the first owner.
The Roewe RX5 starts from around 117,900 yuan in China, roughly £12,900 converted. It has not launched in the UK, and remains a China-only model, though a closely related version has previously been sold under the MG badge in some export markets.
