Deepal S05
The Deepal S05 has followed the S07 into the UK, a smaller compact SUV that’s actually gone on sale here rather than just being announced. It was designed at Changan’s studio in Turin, Italy, and won an iF Design Award for it, with a genuinely slippery drag coefficient of 0.25 helping both efficiency and range. Buyers get a choice of five exterior colours: Ganymede Grey, Deep Space Black, Moonlight White, Mercury Silver, and Andromeda Blue.
Two versions are offered in the UK, both using the same 68.8 kWh LFP battery. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 268 hp and gets the longer WLTP range of the pair, at up to 303 miles. The all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor for a combined 429 hp and a 0 to 62 mph time of 5.5 seconds, though its extra performance and weight bring WLTP range down to 278 miles. Both charge from 30 to 80% in as little as 15 minutes on a suitable DC rapid charger.
Inside, the S05 gets a 15.4 inch touchscreen that tilts up to 15 degrees to face the driver or passenger, running on a Qualcomm 8155 chip, along with a 50W wireless phone charging pad, a 1.9 square metre panoramic roof, and a 14 speaker sound system. Practicality is well covered too, with a 159 litre front boot (or “frunk”) in addition to a 492 litre rear boot that expands to 1,250 litres with the seats folded, and a towing capacity of up to 1,600kg.
The Deepal S05 starts from £37,990 in the UK. Every Deepal comes with a 7 year, 100,000 mile vehicle warranty, with the battery separately covered for 8 years or 124,000 miles.
