Avatr is a premium electric brand built around an unusual three-way partnership between Changan, one of China’s largest state-owned carmakers, battery giant CATL, and tech company Huawei. Its roots trace back to 2018, when Changan set up an EV focused division that was later relaunched under the Avatr name in 2021, backed by fresh investment from CATL and a deep technology partnership with Huawei. Worth being precise about that partnership: Huawei supplies the driver assistance software, sensors and lidar hardware that Avatr leans on heavily for marketing, but it is not actually a shareholder in the company, ownership sits with Changan and CATL.

Avatr Overview
Avatr began selling cars in China in 2022, starting with the 11, a fastback SUV, and has since expanded to four models covering both fastback and conventional SUV body styles alongside two saloons. Sales have been respectable rather than spectacular so far, over 150,000 cars sold since launch, putting it around the 35th to 50th spot among Chinese brands by monthly sales, still a fairly niche player at home even as its export ambitions grow.
Those export ambitions are genuinely serious. Avatr’s first right hand drive market is Thailand, where a dedicated new Changan factory builds the 11 SUV, explicitly described by Avatr’s brand president as a bridgehead for expanding into other Southeast Asian right hand drive markets. Australia has also been confirmed as a target market, announced at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, making Avatr the third Chinese premium brand heading there after MG’s IM spin-off and BYD’s Denza. Avatr has maintained a design studio in Munich since 2021 too, with parent company Changan running sales and marketing operations from the same city as part of a wider European push.
The UK is a different story. Avatr publicly targeted a UK launch by the end of 2025, with the 11 SUV expected to be the first model here, but that target has been missed, and no new date has been confirmed. What makes this genuinely interesting to watch is that Avatr’s corporate sibling, Deepal, another Changan owned EV brand, is launching in the UK imminently with the Deepal S07 SUV, backed by a new UK sales and fleet team and a growing dealer network. Changan has said it wants five models on sale in the UK across its brands by the end of 2026 and is targeting a top ten position in the UK market by 2030. Given that shared parentage and dealer infrastructure, Avatr following Deepal into the UK within the next year or two looks like a reasonably likely bet, even though nothing is confirmed yet.
Because Avatr has not launched in the UK, the specifications and pricing on this page and its model pages are based on the Chinese market, where all four models are actually sold today, alongside Thailand pricing for the 11 where that’s the more relevant right hand drive reference point, clearly marked as such throughout.
