Hongqi G919
The Hongqi G919 is a genuinely unexpected addition to Hongqi’s range, the brand’s first proper body-on-frame off-roader, built as a direct rival to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class rather than anything more conventionally Hongqi. It debuted publicly at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show before being officially named in June, and was shown again at Chengdu’s motor show in August wearing full expedition gear, a roof rack, side ladder and rock sliders included.
Power comes from a series hybrid setup, a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine working purely as a generator for four individually controlled electric motors, one per wheel. Combined output reaches 620kW, or 843hp, with 1,320Nm of torque, enough for a genuinely startling 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds for a vehicle this size and shape. Electric-only range is a modest 174 miles on the CLTC cycle, with a combined range of up to 839 miles once the petrol generator is included. Three locking differentials and air suspension back up the numbers with genuine off-road credibility, not just presence.
The Hongqi G919 has not yet officially gone on sale, with China deliveries expected before the end of 2026. No pricing has been confirmed, and it has not launched outside China.
