Leapmotor is one of the newest Chinese brands to reach the UK, but it arrives with a level of backing that sets it apart from almost every other manufacturer on this site. The company, formally Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology, was founded in Hangzhou in 2015 by Zhu Jiangming, a former executive at the surveillance camera maker Dahua Technology, and it didn’t actually start selling cars until 2019, beginning with a small, slightly unusual two door electric coupe called the S01.

Leapmotor Overview
What changed Leapmotor’s trajectory was Stellantis, the vast automotive group behind Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep and several other well known names. In October 2023, Stellantis paid around 1.5 billion euros for roughly a fifth of Leapmotor’s parent company, and the two firms jointly created Leapmotor International, a separate joint venture set up specifically to sell, service and distribute Leapmotor vehicles everywhere outside China. Stellantis holds a 51 percent majority stake in that joint venture, giving it effective control over how Leapmotor is sold internationally, while the original Chinese company continues to design, engineer and build the cars themselves, mainly at a factory in Jinhua, in Zhejiang province.
That relationship is arguably Leapmotor’s single biggest selling point in the UK. Rather than building a dealer network from scratch, the way most new Chinese brands have to, Leapmotor cars are sold through existing Stellantis dealerships, giving buyers access to an already established service and parts network rather than having to trust an entirely unfamiliar name with genuinely no UK infrastructure behind it. Stellantis engineering input has also shaped the cars directly, with models like the B10 tuned specifically on Fiat’s test track in Balocco, Italy, for European roads.
Leapmotor launched in the UK in early 2025 with two models, the small T03 city car and the considerably larger C10 SUV, and quickly built a reputation for offering a huge amount of standard equipment at a genuinely low price, with a single, fully loaded trim level on most models rather than a confusing options list. The B10 followed in 2026 as a more explicitly European focused model, tuned in Italy and set to become the first Leapmotor actually built in a new factory in Spain, which should also help it avoid the import tariffs currently applied to cars shipped in from China.
Alongside its electric models, Leapmotor has also introduced range extending versions of both the C10 and B10, badged Hybrid EV, which pair a small petrol engine acting purely as an onboard generator with the same electric drivetrain, delivering combined ranges well in excess of 500 miles for buyers who aren’t yet ready to rely entirely on public charging.
All Leapmotor vehicles sold in the UK come with a battery warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles, alongside a vehicle warranty of 3 years on the T03 and 4 years on the C10 and B10, shorter than some Chinese rivals but backed by the reassurance of Stellantis’s much larger, more established dealer and parts network standing behind it.
