Denza Z

The Denza Z is the brand’s genuine performance halo model, a sports saloon built to prove that Denza can compete with the world’s fastest production cars, not just its most luxurious ones. UK pricing was confirmed shortly after the Z9 GT’s, positioning it as one of the most expensive cars BYD’s corporate umbrella has ever sold in Britain.

With a combined output of 1,582 hp, the Denza Z sits in genuinely rarefied performance territory, competing on paper with hypercars costing several times as much. Specific acceleration and range figures for the UK market have not been widely published, though the car’s positioning makes clear that outright speed, rather than efficiency, is the primary focus.

UK pricing for the Denza Z starts from £142,900, confirmed alongside the Z9 GT’s own UK pricing announcement, making it comfortably the most expensive model across BYD’s various UK brands.

Boot space is a genuinely useful 250 litres in the Coupe and Racing, expanding to 550 litres with the rear seats folded down, practicality that few rivals at this performance level can match.

Despite looking every bit the two-seat supercar, the Z is actually a four-seater across all three variants, helped by a 2,780mm wheelbase that’s closer to an executive saloon’s than a sports car’s.

The Z’s chassis technology is arguably as significant as its power figures. It uses a fully electronic steer-by-wire system, developed entirely in-house by BYD’s engineering division, which Denza describes as the first system of its kind built completely in China. There’s no mechanical link at all between the steering wheel and the front wheels, which also allows the wheel itself to fold away under the dashboard, both for extra cabin space and, Denza says, to reduce injury risk in an accident. Independent rear-wheel steering is fitted too, capable of turning up to 20 degrees, shrinking the Z’s turning circle to a genuinely tight 4.62 metres for a car of this performance. All of this is backed by magnetorheological suspension that can change its stiffness in under 10 milliseconds, reading the road ahead and adjusting before the car even reaches a bump.

Denza Z Coupe

Denza has also confirmed a fourth, even more extreme version is coming: the Z Special Edition, built specifically to chase lap records at the Nürburgring Nordschleife later in 2026. It’s said to produce more than 1,970 hp, wrapped in race-grade carbon fibre bodywork, with active front and rear aerodynamics that cut drag by up to 40% while generating over 2,000kg of downforce at 300km/h. It isn’t a car you’ll be able to simply order from a dealer, but it’s a clear statement of intent about how seriously Denza is taking the Z as a genuine performance flagship rather than just an electric novelty.
