The MG HS is MG’s family SUV, sitting above the ZS/S5 in the lineup, and it has quietly become one of the brand’s best selling models in the UK, helped along by a spacious interior and a genuinely competitive plug in hybrid option. The second generation HS, revealed in 2024, brought a longer wheelbase for extra interior space, an updated interior, and a wider choice of engines than before.
The PHEV version pairs a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine with a considerably more powerful electric motor and a 24.7 kWh battery, together producing around 295 hp. That combination is enough for a 0 to 62 mph time of under 7 seconds, quicker than the regular petrol HS by some margin, while the electric motor alone can carry the car for up to 75 miles before the petrol engine needs to step in, one of the longest electric only ranges of any plug in hybrid SUV sold in the UK.
Alongside the PHEV, MG also sells the HS with a straightforward turbocharged petrol engine for buyers who do not want to plug in at all. Every HS comes with MG’s usual generous equipment levels and a long manufacturer’s warranty, continuing the value focused approach that has made the model one of MG’s steadiest sellers.
