The MG4 EV is MG’s purpose built electric hatchback, and arguably the car most responsible for the brand’s rapid growth since 2022. Unlike most of MG’s other electric models, which are adapted from existing petrol platforms, the MG4 was designed from the ground up as an EV, riding on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, which also underpins several of the brand’s other electric cars.
The lineup keeps things fairly simple. The entry level Long Range uses a 64 kWh battery for a WLTP range of up to 280 miles, while the Extended Range steps up to a 77 kWh pack for up to 338 miles, at the cost of a slightly higher price. Both are rear wheel drive with a single motor. Sitting above both is the MG4 XPower, a genuinely quick performance version with a second motor added at the front for all wheel drive, cutting the 0 to 62 mph time down to well under 4 seconds.
MG gave the MG4 a significant update in January 2026, bringing a larger touchscreen, a return of physical climate control buttons after criticism of the previous touchscreen only setup, and a redesigned interior borrowing cues from newer MG electric models. Combined with one of the longest warranties in the industry, the MG4 remains one of the more compelling value propositions in the competitive small electric hatchback class.
