MG IM5
The MG IM5 is genuinely the most technically advanced car ever sold under the MG badge, a battery-electric saloon actually built by IM Motors, SAIC’s premium EV joint venture with Alibaba, and sold through MG’s existing UK dealer network rather than launching a separate showroom brand, similar in spirit to how Lexus relates to Toyota. On sale in the UK since July 2025, it’s already being described by reviewers as one of the most genuinely impressive electric saloons to arrive this year.
Three versions are offered, spanning a huge spread of range and performance. The entry Standard Range uses a 75kWh LFP battery for 304 miles of WLTP range and a 6.8 second 0-62mph time. The Long Range steps up to a 100kWh NMC battery, pushing WLTP range to a genuinely class-leading 441 miles while also dropping 0-62mph to 4.9 seconds. At the top, the all-wheel-drive Performance trades some range (357 miles) for a startling 741bhp and a 3.2 second 0-62mph time, genuinely supercar territory for a five-door electric saloon costing under Β£49,000. All versions use an 800V architecture, with the Long Range and Performance capable of 396kW DC charging, a 10 to 80% top-up in as little as 17 minutes.
The MG IM5 starts from Β£39,450 in the UK, rising to Β£48,495 for the top Performance trim. It comes with a 7 year, 80,000 mile warranty, matching the generous cover MG has become known for.
