BYD Dolphin Surf
The BYD Dolphin Surf is currently the cheapest pure-electric car from a major established manufacturer sold in the UK, and it’s genuinely designed to be BYD’s gateway model. Sold elsewhere as the BYD Seagull, it inherits its styling and underlying technology from the standard Dolphin while being smaller, simpler and considerably cheaper.
Two battery sizes are offered, a 30kWh entry option and a larger 42.2kWh version, both built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. WLTP range tops out at around 200 miles on the larger battery, with DC charging capped at 60kW. Inside, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen and a full suite of driver assistance features come as standard, genuinely well equipped for the price.
