BYD Seal U
The BYD Seal U is a family sized SUV based on the same underlying platform as the BYD Seal saloon, but sold in the UK exclusively as a plug in hybrid, badged Seal U DM-i. It was BYD’s first plug in hybrid model for Europe, launched in 2024 and pitched against cars like the Ford Kuga and Kia Sportage.
Two versions are offered. The front-wheel-drive Boost pairs a 1.5 litre petrol engine with a single electric motor for a combined 217 PS and an electric only range of up to 78 miles on the smaller battery Comfort spec, or 50 miles on Boost itself. The all-wheel-drive Design adds a second motor for a combined 323 PS and a 0 to 62 mph time of around 5.9 seconds, with a shorter electric only range of around 43 miles due to the extra performance hardware.
Total range, combining the battery and a full tank of petrol, extends to as much as 671 miles. Every Seal U DM-i comes with BYD’s 6 year, 93,750 mile warranty, with the battery covered for up to 8 years and the electric motor for 8 years or 93,750 miles.
