BYD Dolphin
The BYD Dolphin is BYD’s small electric hatchback, launched in the UK in June 2023 as a rival to cars like the Renault 5 and MG4. It’s one of the more affordable ways into the BYD range, and shares its underlying e-Platform 3.0 architecture and Blade Battery technology with the larger Atto 3 and Seal.
Four trims are offered across two battery sizes. Entry level Active uses a smaller 44.9 kWh battery and a 94 hp motor, giving a fairly relaxed 0 to 62 mph time of 12.3 seconds and up to 211 miles of WLTP range. Boost steps up to 174 hp for a much livelier 7.5 second sprint, while Comfort and Design get the same 201 hp motor as the Atto 3 and a larger 60.4 kWh battery, with a 0 to 62 mph time of around 7.0 seconds.
Every Dolphin comes with BYD’s standard 6 year, 93,750 mile warranty, with the battery separately covered for 8 years or 125,000 miles. It remains one of the more competitively priced electric cars in the UK, particularly through salary sacrifice schemes.
