BYD Sealion 08
The BYD Sealion 08 is the SUV counterpart to the Seal 08, and together the two form the two genuine flagship models of BYD’s Ocean lineup. It launched in China in September 2026, a mid-to-large SUV measuring just over 5.1 metres long, offered with either five or six seats, and built to properly rival premium SUVs well above BYD’s usual price bracket.
Eight variants span both plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains, all using BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and supporting flash charging. The electric versions are the standout, with the rear-wheel-drive model offering a claimed 900km of CLTC range from a 115kWh battery, among the longest range of any SUV BYD builds. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor for a combined 643hp, capable of 0-62mph in around 5 seconds despite the car’s size. Standard equipment across the range includes active rear-wheel steering, dual-chamber air suspension, and BYD’s latest God’s Eye 5.0 driver assistance system.
The BYD Sealion 08 starts from 229,900 yuan in China, around £25,130 converted, rising to 279,900 yuan for the top all-wheel-drive trim, around £30,590 converted. It has not launched outside China, and no international plans have been announced.
