BYD Sealion 5
The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i was launched in the UK in January 2026 as BYD’s ninth model here, a mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV positioned to become one of the brand’s top sellers. Unlike most of its rivals from Omoda, Jaecoo and MG, it’s offered exclusively as a plug-in hybrid rather than alongside a petrol-only option.
Power comes from BYD’s DM-i system, pairing a 1.5 litre petrol engine with a 194hp electric motor, offered with a choice of two battery sizes, 12.96kWh or 18.3kWh. Electric-only range runs to around 53 miles, with a combined range between the battery and a full tank reaching as high as 631 miles. It’s genuinely well equipped throughout, with automatic LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assistance standard on both trims.
The BYD Sealion 5 starts from £29,995 for the Comfort trim, rising to £32,995 for Design, both prices on the road.
