BYD Shark
The BYD Shark is BYD’s first pickup truck, and its UK launch marks the brand’s entry into an entirely new vehicle category here, having previously built its UK range around SUVs, saloons and hatchbacks alone. It’s a genuine double-cab pickup, aimed squarely at the Ford Ranger, but built around BYD’s Super Hybrid DMO plug-in hybrid technology rather than diesel.
A 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine works alongside front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive, together producing 436hp and 650Nm of torque, enough for a genuinely quick 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds for a vehicle this size. A 32.2kWh Blade Battery, the largest of any plug-in hybrid pickup on sale, gives up to 55.9 miles of pure electric range, with a combined range of 419 miles once the 60 litre fuel tank is included. Towing capacity stands at 2,500kg. Inside, a 15.6 inch rotating touchscreen is fitted as standard, the largest of any pickup on the market, alongside heated and ventilated front seats and a head-up display.
The BYD Shark is available in the UK in a single, fully loaded trim level, priced from £47,290 including VAT. Orders are open now, with first customer deliveries due in the final quarter of 2026.
