BYD Dolphin G
The BYD Dolphin G DM-i is a genuine first, the UK’s first plug-in hybrid supermini, and the first BYD model developed specifically for overseas markets rather than adapted from an existing China-market car. It’s based on the fully electric Dolphin Surf and sold alongside it, aimed squarely at the MG3, Renault Clio and Vauxhall Corsa, undercutting several rivals despite offering genuine plug-in hybrid technology none of them can match.
Two versions of BYD’s Super Hybrid DM-i system are offered. The entry Active trim uses a smaller battery, while Boost and above step up to an 18.3kWh pack, lifting electric-only range to 65 miles and total combined range to 646 miles, with weighted fuel consumption as high as 201.7mpg. At 4,160mm long, it’s a genuinely compact car, with a class-leading 425 litre boot for the segment.
The BYD Dolphin G is available to order now across four trims: Active from £23,990, Boost from £26,990, Comfort from £28,490, and Sport from £29,940, all prices on the road. First UK customer deliveries began in September 2026.
