The Sealion 7 is BYD’s mid-size electric SUV, sitting in the Ocean series alongside the Dolphin hatchback and Seal saloon, and sharing the Seal’s underlying platform stretched into a taller, family-friendly body. Designed under BYD’s Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger, it carries the Ocean series look, with a sculpted coupe-SUV roofline, a distinctive front “X face,” and dual U-shaped LED headlights.
Buyers can choose between three trims. Comfort is the entry point, with a single rear motor, an 82.5 kWh battery, and a WLTP range of around 300 miles. Design steps up to all-wheel drive on the same battery, trading a little range for extra traction. Excellence sits at the top, pairing all-wheel drive with a larger 91.3 kWh battery for the longest range in the lineup, along with noticeably stronger performance thanks to a more powerful dual-motor setup.
All versions use BYD’s Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate design built into the car’s structure, and support fast DC charging in most trims. The Sealion 7 first appeared in Europe at the Paris Motor Show in October 2024, with UK deliveries following from early 2025, and it competes directly with cars like the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6.
